Caslin Rose Tells Us Why She’s Not Afraid to”Act Up”

As an actress and podcaster, have you ever felt like you only had to stick to one thing in the entertainment industry?

This is a tough question. I come from a professional dance background, former gymnast, an on camera host and emcee, and now I have a podcast and a blog.

I want to be known as a comedic actress, but I do so many things, I feel like it would be a disservice to myself to try and hide my other talents.

However, what I’m finding right now is that I’m starting to become known as “Caslin, the podcaster” instead of “Caslin, the actress” which is what I was somewhat concerned about once I began this new podcasting journey with “Always Acting Up” podcast.

I guess all publicity is good publicity as long as I can get my name out to the world and what I have to offer.

Have you ever felt like a “Jack of All Trades?”

All. The. Time. I think at one point this idea was looked down upon, but nowadays I don’t really feel like you can be “just an actor” or “just a writer”. So many successful people have multiple commas in their titles.

For example, actors who are also “influencers” can be looked at as “more valuable”. The idea is that someone who has a large following will be able to market a project they are a part of to their followers. It’s essentially free marketing and publicity for a lower budget film or start up companies. If you’re a writer who can produce, it’ll be easier to get a film off the ground and into production.

In terms of feeling like a jack of all trades, I currently operate as a solopreneur so I have to do a lot of things on my own. Nobody is going to set up head shot appointments for me, find networking events, build my website, submit to castings, etc. It is show BUSINESS after all.

I think having a background in other areas of your art allows you to be more well rounded, as long as you don’t spread yourself too thin. It’s definitely easier said than done.

What are some doubts you had as an actor? If any, what made you not want to quit?

I doubt myself pretty much every day and the older I get the more challenging it can be.

I think that may be my biggest struggle. The industry IS changing, but it still idolizes youth. There’s this really awful notion that if you aren’t successful and had X amount of credits by the time you’re a “mature” actress, then you may never have a successful career. This has been said to me by agents and managers, but you have to remember that just because that’s the way the industry has been in the past, doesn’t mean it needs to stay that way.

One recurring theme I hear over and over whether it be on my podcast or in other interviews from successful people is that they “just kept going”. I believe at some point, I’ll figure it all out. So in the meantime, I’ll prepare and be the best that I can so that when the opportunity arises, I’ll be ready.

Any new projects you got going on?

Currently, I am working on growing my podcast “Always Acting Up” which features tips and tricks, behind the scene secrets and industry conversations from guests who are professionals in the entertainment industry.

I recently had a 6x Grammy Winner, an award winning filmmaker and so many other guests who shared what their journey to success was and how to get into the industry, upon many other tips and tricks.

I also recently launched the “Always Acting Up Blog” where I focus on elements to help you look, feel, and perform better in front of the camera and in life. I am always looking for guest writers, guests to be interviewed, and other collaborations that would be helpful to both parties grow and reach a wider audience.
